The latest release of the game (a.k.a. Episode 2) was made available to all backers of the game. This release includes two new adventures, the second level of the adventure, and the second level of the pirates. Some of the changes in this release are:
Shroud of the Avatar is also known as SoTA, the second game in the ever-popular Avatar game series. Shroud of the Avatar is a game in which players create characters, visit different planets, make friends with others in their groups, and generally enjoy exploring the game world. This game will be fun to play when it is released, but is also known for having some bugs in it.
Shroud of the Avatar is a crowd funded game that was successfully launched in December 2014 after an Indiegogo campaign that raised over $1.6 Million. Since then, the game has been updated regularly with new content. The latest release, Episode 2, is available now to all players, but only if they have purchased a Limited Edition version before March 31st.
So, some good news: with Release 93, Shroud of the Avatar has introduced several new Adventure scenes. The bad news is that this material is only available to those who purchased early access to Episode 2 content again, so unless you’re a fan of the game enough to pay early access to a growing MMORPG, there may not be anything here for you.
For those with Episode 2 access, there’s the icy realm of Jotungrund to explore, complete with massive frost giants to fight and various rewards to collect, including new weapons, a new artifact, and giant-sized decorations; and the dense forest of Bandits’ Run, which promises bandit hideouts, quests, and plenty of treasure to find, including four of the 12 new potion recipes curable.
Normal SOTA players will be pleased to learn that regular agricultural plants now have a chance to drop a decorative variant, as well as the 12 new potions, new craftables, and a Withered Flesh Flayer Baby decorative plant that may be revived and then created. What kind of player-owned property would be complete without a Flesh Flayer Baby? Other changes to combat, UI, and other areas are also included, as detailed in the patch notes.
Shroud of the Avatar, as long-time MOP readers know, is a contentious MMO. The game and its original studio have been chastised for reducing promised features, overfunding, delaying Kickstarter incentives, obscuring company leadership and office status, and failing to file SEC reports as required under the game’s equity crowdfunding. Richard Garriott’s firm Portalarium sold SOTA to its main developer in 2019, thus exiting the game. Press inquiries have been greeted with stonewalling and obscenities, and equity crowdfund backers seem to have been forgotten about, but the game still has players and is still being developed, as we continue to cover.
