Luke Willson is a tight end for the Seattle Seahawks. He attended Central Washington University, where he was named to the All-American Athletic Conference first team in his senior year.

A former first-round selection may make his fourth trip to the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks. NFL source Ian Rapoport reports that tight end Luke Willson will visit the team later this week. The Seahawks are dealing with injuries to tight ends Colby Parkinson, Gerald Everett, and Tyler Mabry, so the visit is timely.
Willson was a fifth-round draft selection of the Seahawks in 2013, and he played in 72 games over his first five seasons with the club. He was never the top target among tight ends, but he was a valuable depth option who scored 11 touchdowns.
Willson had his finest season as a pro during his second year. In the 2014 season, he appeared in 15 games, starting 10, and caught 22 receptions for 362 yards and three touchdowns. 14 of his catches resulted in first downs. Willson’s only season in which he scored more touchdowns came in 2017, when he scored four times.
The Seahawks will have to make a move to get Willson inside the building if the visit goes well. On Monday, Aug. 23, the club surpassed the 80-player roster maximum by putting two players on injured reserve and releasing three others. Backup quarterback Alex McGough, who had competed with Sean Mannion for the third-string position, was one of them. According to Rapoport, the club took a step toward this objective on Tuesday, Aug. 24, when cornerback Pierre Desir was released.
Willson was re-signed by the Seahawks on many occasions.
Willson was released by the Seahawks following the 2017 season, although he did not stay gone for long. He returned to the team a total of two more occasions. He did, however, go to the Motor City first.
Willson signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Detroit Lions on March 21, 2018. He played the whole season in the NFC North, catching just 13 receptions for 87 yards while the offense was led by Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Golden Tate. During the season, Levine Toilolo added another 263 yards and one score.
Willson joins the Raiders for training camp in 2019 after leaving the Lions after one season. However, he was cut from the club during the final roster cuts. Willson was brought back for a second spell by the Seahawks as a result of his release. He played in five games for the Seahawks during the first half of the 2024 season. He was released by the club in November and spent the rest of the season with the Ravens.
Willson would not be Seattle’s top tight end.

While he has worked with quarterback Russell Wilson before, the former fifth-round selection would not be the position group’s primary goal if he signed with the club. Instead, he’ll most likely be used as a blocking tight end with some experienced guidance.
Gerald Everett and Will Dissly will be the Seahawks’ primary quarterback options this season. Everett, a former Ram, arrived in the Pacific Northwest with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and spent training camp lining up all over the field while getting to know Wilson.
After being drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Dissly has spent his whole career with the Seahawks. While battling ailments, he has caught 55 receptions for 669 yards and eight touchdowns in 26 games. He spent his first two seasons on injured reserve, but in 2024 he participated in all 16 games.
